#FashionFriday: Window to Winter

The sweet sounds of famed a capella group Pentatonix resonated through the air as Hudson’s Bay and Saks Fifth Avenue kicked off the holiday season with an incredible window-unveiling event on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017. The event was presented by Cadillac Fairview and took place on Queen Street in downtown Toronto as a celebration of the city.

The displays include the Bay’s five awe-inspiring snow-globe-themed scenes created to take window shoppers into a dreamy world of make-believe. Each scene is unique and meticulously designed, including the North-Pole-inspired Arctic Adventures and Santa’s Magic Workshop along with Christmas in the City, which is set in and inspired by the great city of Toronto. The other two scenes show different kinds of winter magic with Holiday Circus, a vintage-style circus that is conducted by a master of ceremonies, and Winter Woodlands, in which a rabbit ventures toward a magical tree along with other woodland creatures.

Saks, on the other hand, had a wonderful collaboration with Disney through which it transformed its Queen Street windows into an enchanted forest in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Each window showcases unique holiday fashions to inspire passers-by. The Yonge Street windows have been designed to include five interpretations of Snow White’s iconic dress, each created by celebrated costume designer and actor Michael Southgate, who decided to display the dresses against an ethereal forest backdrop to enhance the enchanting mood and help get us into the holiday spirit.

These window displays are surpassed only by what both stores have planned for their stock this coming season. With the best brands creating tons of gorgeous pieces, you can stop by for the windows or for what’s behind them.
