One of today’s most inspiring causes was supported and celebrated in Woodbridge, Ont. on May 10, 2013. Treasure the Angels was a fundraising event organized by Vaughan-based custom home builder The Sopta Group to benefit Angels of East Africa, a charity that saves children in North Uganda and South Sudan from Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army. Amid elaborate food stations and a silent auction, the movie Machine Gun Preacher was screened, depicting the true story of Sam Childers, a reformed biker turned preacher who has devoted the past 15 years of his life to saving these children. Childers’ story became truly tangible for event-goers when the real Sam Childers stepped onto the stage to share his incredible experience. The event raised over $10,000 for the cause.
