#FashionFriday: Runway Rampage

The gorgeous models strutted down the runway in the ballroom of the Windsor Arms Hotel on Wednesday, Sept. 27, showing off luxurious, eye-catching garments in jewel tones, with embroidery, velvet and hand-painted details. Each piece by the designer, Aleks Susak, was expertly executed, wowing the local celebrity-filled audience of Real Housewives and surgeons as well as various media outlets. The excited energy in the room was palpable as model after model swept by in flowing garments.

“Aleks Susak is a womenswear label that was established in Toronto, Canada in 2014. The label is known for producing ready-to-wear collections, pieces that feature handcrafted components as well as silk garments that are made-to-measure, hand painted and one-a-kind under The Silk Collection line,” according to the label’s website. Many attendees to the event arrived in Susak style, flaunting hand-painted numbers from her earlier collections, showing themselves as true fans of the designer.

Susak may have only started three years ago, however her designs have captured the attention of notable personalities such as Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, Jessica Mulroney and Real Housewives Joan Kelley Walker and Roxy Earle, who have worn pieces from the collection. The line was recently featured in the Real Housewives of Toronto reality television program.

This season’s inspirations, according to the label, are “a bridge between east and west, blending tradition, history and folk culture. The vibrant national wear of Europe serves as the inspirational starting point for pieces that are a combination of classic cuts with Western style rock-inspired fashion with exceptional attention to detail, individually hand-sewn components that fuse regal elegance with a modern edge.” Each piece is completely unique, yet all fit into the line perfectly.

The finale piece, a floor-length velvet jacket, is a unique shade of deep dusty pink with bright blue embroidery on the shoulders and back as well as a matching blue lining to juxtapose the pink colour’s soft, warm nature. This piece is a complete knockout and will make you stand out in any room. This statement piece definitely drew some “ooh”s and “ahh”s from the star-studded onlookers.

The collection ranges from $250 (Velveta Corset Vest) to over $1,200 (Gaia Dress) and incorporates many of the big trends for this fall/winter season, but in a timelessly chic manner.
