Tree Canada offers a variety of events so that everyone can participate on National Tree Day.
Since 1992, Tree Canada has been dedicated to reforestation, land restoration, and urban forestry in Canada. The non-profit collaborates with various corporate agencies and community partners and planted 4.4 million trees last year.
Continuing this mission, the non-profit is organizing 14 events to take place across Canada during National Tree Day on September 23, 2026, welcoming people from all walks of life to join in.
Describing trees as “natural infrastructure,” Robert Henri, Tree Canada’s Director of Communications and Brand, says, “Organizing a tree-planting event may seem simple, but it’s quite complex and expensive to buy trees, prepare the land and take care of those trees afterward.”
He emphasizes how partners like BMO, the presenting sponsor, are crucial to helping make these events possible.
With over a decade of experience working with public institutions and environmental non-profits, Henri finds immense joy in aligning his passion for environmental protection with communications and marketing to make a difference and improve lives. “It is so gratifying to do work that has a positive impact on society and the environment,” he says.
With the National Tree Day events, there is something for everyone to contribute to building change. To get involved this year, you can visit the website to learn about easy ways to contribute, sign up for events, fundraise, register your own event or just come out and celebrate trees this year.
Speaking about wildfire-affected regions of the country, Henri adds, “We work with local partners to assess the need for land, help with biodiversity, and work directly with groups where areas have been affected by wildfire to create projects that will make a difference for them.”
Trees have a tremendous value for communities, and with National Tree Day, Tree Canada shares a range of opportunities for people from all walks of life to make a positive impact.
Henri concludes, “After tree planting, you leave with a genuine sense of satisfaction knowing that you did something positive that day. It may not change the world, but all these things together make a difference.”
