Flato Developments is proud and privileged to make a donation to the Arts Society King

Flato Developments began in 2005, after Shakir Rehmatullah was introduced to the building and construction industry at a young age. Flato Developments focuses on home building and land development with both commercial and residential developments across the GTA. The company pursues not just building homes but supporting positive change in communities.

“This is [the] core element of our corporate mission – we don’t just build homes, we build communities,” says Rehmatullah, president of Flato Developments. “We believe that art brings cultures together and is one of the highest forms of hope,” he says.

Arts Society King (ASK) is a not-for-profit, completely volunteer-run organization, established in 2005. Its vision is to enrich King Township through arts and culture for all.

“The FLATO Developments Inc.’s exceptionally generous donation to Arts Society King (ASK) allows us to continue to support artists in King Township through our signature events, such as the Mayor’s Celebration of Youth Arts, Studio Tour King and the Schomberg Street Gallery, just to name a few. We are very fortunate that Flato Developments were kind enough to reach out to ASK to give us this donation so that we may continue to advocate for artists, and arts and culture in King Township,” says Michele McNally, president of Arts Society King.

And indeed, Flato Developments and the Rehmatullah Family have a history of philanthropy that spans decades. In 2020, Flato Developments donated $1 million to the South East Grey Community Health Centre (SEGCHC), providing primary health care services and health promotion programs for Grey and Bruce County residents. Flato Developments’ previous charitable initiatives include ongoing support for hospitals, such as the Brampton Civic Hospital and Markham Stouffville Hospital, and recreational organizations like local hockey teams. Flato is also a major corporate partner and supporter of the Flato Markham Theatre and Varley Art Gallery.

Rehmatullah adds, “I strongly believe that aiding services, the arts, and recreational activities keeps our communities active, healthy and thriving for future generations to enjoy. Flato is honoured to support the artists and vibrant King Township community in this way.”
