The future of Aida’s Bakery is in good hands, as the sense of family-focused work ethic remains strong.
On any given weekend at Aida’s Bakery, the aroma of fresh pastries lingers in the air to the point that it becomes intoxicating.
Behind the counter, owner Nick Mastrandrea operates with the confidence of someone who understands that a bakery is not just a business but a way of life. Nearby, his 10-year- old son, Marco, greets customers, pulls espresso shots and eagerly steps in wherever backup is needed.
For Marco, helping his father isn’t a chore; it’s a passion. He speaks about the bakery with a sense of enthusiasm that stands out for a boy his age, describing it as a “peaceful place” where everyone is kind and works together. Whether he is preparing espressos, boxing pastries or simply sharing a smile with customers, Marco brings a natural charisma that lifts the room.
Marco’s favourite treat may be the beignet, but his favourite lesson is how to work as a team and build relationships with the staff who have become an extension of his family.
For Nick, watching his son embrace the rhythm of the bakery at such a young age is both emotional and energizing. He remembers his own childhood helping in the family business, when lessons often came with raised voices and long hours. The weight of time and how fleeting it is will force any parent to self- reflect. But there is a very profound feeling of admiration when you see your child happily follow in your footsteps.
Today, Nick’s approach blends discipline with encouragement, teaching Marco the value of responsibility while allowing space for joy. “He gives me more energy,” Nick shares, acknowledging that his son’s enthusiasm is a daily reminder to never lose sight of the fun that first inspired his journey.
The Mastrandrea family understands that success is rarely achieved alone. Nick and his wife, along with their four children, contribute in different ways — from early mornings preparing holiday pastries to behind-the- scenes baking at home. It is a collective effort rooted in shared values: hard work, respect and gratitude for the opportunities that come from perseverance.

In many ways, Marco represents the future of Aida’s Bakery as a young boy discovering the pride that comes from showing up, fortifying the foundation of his work ethic, lending a hand and learning the craft from the ground up. And in that simple act of helping his father, a legacy continues to rise — one batch, one customer and one heartfelt moment at a time.
