An Eye for the Ethereal

Within the crisp white walls of Michael Kors’ headquarters in downtown Toronto, prettily patterned sundresses and striking retro-esque ensembles steal the eye. Ultra-femme fashion from the ’40s meets a ’70s summer romance. Spring is in the air, and Kors is slowly rolling out his awaited new collection for 2014. He incorporates a refreshing romantic twist on each of his creations. “Luxe takes on denim, from cashmere to lace … rustic raffia hand embroideries … micro-paillette florals.” His inspired use of a simple colour palette and mixed textures radiates the playful personality of the collection.

Sensuous shirt-dresses and pencil skirts are complete with sharp contrasting belts and beautiful bold handbags, a sure trend this spring. The designs feature unanticipated keyhole cut-outs and sexy slits, adding an element of curiosity, while maintaining classic and professional ensembles that translate effortlessly from spring into summer.

With an undying affinity for fashion that flourished at a young age, and overwhelming success to boot, the New York-based designer and accessories genius has sketched, sewn and dressed his way to the top of every fashionista’s lust list. And that’s not the only list he’s topped: Google recently revealed its most-searched high-fashion brands, and to no one’s surprise Kors snagged one of the top spots. With over 30 years in the business, his development from clothing to handbags and accessories has earned him an expanding global presence and celebrity following.

To date, Kors sits at the helm of over 450 locations worldwide, with 250 in North America alone.
