Warmth & Wellness in Los Cabos

Finding adventure, gourmet cuisine and health heaven in a Mexican paradise.

At 6 a.m., my alarm goes off, waking me to a bright white room. For a moment, I forget where I am; I even contemplate that I might still be dreaming. Then, as I fully awake, I remember I landed in Mexico late last night and I’m waking up at the Hilton Los Cabos Beach and Golf Resort. Although I am tempted to sleep until 10 a.m., I want to soak in as much of the beautiful Los Cabos as possible before my TRX workout class at Esperanza Resort.

I quickly gather myself and walk down to the beach where the sun is beginning to peek up over the endless ocean. As this liquid gold is pouring through the soft clouds in slow motion, I place my first foot in the rocky, golden sand. Salty wind blows through my hair as I head for the shore. I inhale the fresh ocean air through my nose and exhale through my mouth, which is when it finally sinks in – I am spending the next few days in Mexican paradise. I let the warm, teal water surround my feet for a short walk on the beach before I head back up to the Hilton for breakfast.

The one thing I dread most about travelling is the bloated feeling you get when you come home. Your daily itinerary consists of gluttony in the amazing hotel restaurants, which usually have a lack of healthy foods, and then you head over to lie by the pool and don’t move a muscle in your body all day. I’m not complaining about relaxing, of course; I enjoy lounging around, but I really hate the disturbance in my daily routine and healthy lifestyle. At the Hilton Los Cabos Beach and Golf Resort, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is never a problem.

The daily breakfast became my most anticipated part of the trip. The buffet consisted of an abundance of fresh fruits, kale juice purée and omelettes made by a chef exactly to your preference. There was organic honey dripping off the comb sitting on a table if you wanted to drizzle some natural sweetness over your toast. The food at this resort never lacked in wellness or decadence, which made me feel energized and invigorated after every meal.

And that’s the point; Los Cabos, Mexico, isn’t your average getaway. Most vacations you spend months preparing to look amazing in your bathing suit and then throw it all away the second you get there. Los Cabos is a nice escape from your daily life but doesn’t impose on it. Located on the Baja Peninsula, this captivating slice of Mexico is a two-hour plane ride from California and is a common escape for many celebrities. Maybe it’s the Hollywood influence, but this really is a vacation for the health and wellness lovers who like to relax and have a good time.

For the next few days, my itinerary was booked solid: desert mountain biking and an authentic Mexican lunch with Cabo Adventures, an amazing gourmet dinner at Casa Natalia and a spiritual cleansing ritual in a temazcal.By the end of the trip, I discovered muscles in my body that I didn’t even know existed. I was able to do activities that were not only active, but also fun. I had the chance to take care of my body, feed my adventurous side, learn about tasty organic food and care for my spirit.

My last day in Los Cabos was spent back at the Hilton where I had the chance to take in the scenery and rest by the pool. The only activity planned for the day was my one-hour full body massage in the hotel’s spa, which is probably the closest I have ever felt to being in heaven – complete euphoria. For my last few hours before heading off to the airport, I lay in a hammock, reading and letting the warm rays of thr sun seep into my skin and warm up my bones before I got back to the bitter winter air.
